Telecoms Data Specialist (FTTx/Smallworld)

Telecoms Data Specialist (FTTx/Smallworld)

Brief Overview

My client is currently seeking a Project Manager for an FTTx new build program of work. The client is one of the largest communications providers in the world. The role is a 8-9 month contract that can be homebased with travel to client sites in the UK and Europe.

In support of the customers Central Design House FTTx network expansion- new build program in Europe, there is a requirement to analyse the 'in country' data, that will be required as part of the expansion. We need specialist knowledge to be able to review each of the multiple data sources (over 30 systems in 10 countries) and the additional manual records that go to make up the Network Inventory. The purpose of this exercise is to significantly descope the 'risk' of corrupt data delaying the rollout of Smallworld to the individual countries. For example some 40% of Network Inventory data is not contained within a recognised tool such as Cablescout, GCOMMs, which is stored in Autocad, PDF's and excel spreadsheets. The overall objective of this is to provide a written recommendation, by country on the quality of the data, how many different sources it is held in, and what the approach should be to upload into Smallworld either through a data migration or a digitization plan.

Role Description

The Data Specialist role will involve meeting key New Build and In-Country resources to build a clear picture of what activities need to be undertaken. Travel will be an essential part of this role. It will require capabilities analysing Telco data and the multiple sources of data where these records are held, either manual or system based.

In addition clear communication skills will be required to provide both verbal and written interim reports leading up to the full scope documentation. Powerpoint skills are essential. The services are delivered from 10 countries in scope and whereas most of the resources that are key will speak English, some local language skills may be necessary from the support team behind the scenes although not a prerequisite for the customer facing specialist.

Work with the IT & Tools workstream members to understand the program and the deliverables that they have as these roles are closely linked and one will not be successful without the other.

In addition:

• Weekly progress reports, followed by country specific reports:
o The quality of the data
o The volume of data held
o The sources of where that data is held
o The impact of not having that data held within the central PNI system
o What the process would be to migrate or digitize to bring into Smallworld
o Recommendation on each country
o Fixed costs and fixed timelines by country

• Immediate
• The role will involve significant European travel.
